Waste electrolysis to produce coagulants for the elimination of contaminants in wastewater
- LIFE Waste2Coag close to the finalisation of the construction stage of the pilot for the valorisation of metal waste and brines, in the sustainable production of coagulants for their applications in wastewater treatment.
On July 12th, the second reunion of the coordination committee of the project LIFE WASTE2COAG (W2C) LIFE20 ENV/ES/000430 took place online. During the reunion, Global Omnium presented the current state of the project, highlighting the achieved progress so far.
The B1 action of design, construction and launch of the prototype, coordinated by AIDIMME, will be extended until October of this year, 2022, when the optimization of the ELS pilot plant will start.
During the reunion, images of the pilot plant’s equipment and the achieved progress in the construction of the main reactor of the plant, which will now be transferred and installed in the water treatment plant of Gandía, were shown.
The second part of the ISLE reunion shared the work carried out to introduce the new process in the market, framed inside the B6 action, as well as the dissemination and communication strategies and tools developed in order to raise awareness among the public and guarantee maximum visibility of the objectives, activities and results of the project. Up to now, the project’s web has been created (https://lifewaste2coag.com/), the structure of the web seminars has been defined and informative brochures have been elaborated and edited. Additionally, an initial noticeboard compilating the expected objectives and results of the project, aligned with the concept of circular economy and the valorisation of metal waste and liquid residue, such as demineralization brines during the production of coagulants, has been published. Moreover, an informative video on the W2C project is being filmed, which will be posted in the web.
The project LIFE WASTE2COAG aims at designing and showing innovative and profitable technology, based on electrolysis of residues to produce coagulants for the elimination of contaminants in wastewater, including emerging and pathogen contaminants. These products will be used to ensure the quality of effluents in urban and industrial WWTPs.
Circular Economy in AIDIMME
Strategies aimed at promoting a change in the waste management model. Changes in production and consumption models that involve recycling, reusing materials and products as many times as possible, increasing the ecological use of resources, their life cycle.
