Simbiosis Industrial en acción
La Simbiosis Industrial ha sido la protagonista de dos presentaciones de AIDIMME en la Semana Europea de las Regiones.
El pasado día 15 de Octubre, en el que el proyecto TRIS (Transition Regions Towards Industrial Symbiosis) desarrolló su evento final, y el 21 de octubre donde la Dirección General de Innovación, Universidad, Ciencia y Sociedad Digital presentó la S3 como una clave para el Pacto verde Europeo (Green Deal), con acciones desarrolladas por AIDIMME como ejemplificadoras.
The European Week of Regions and Cities
La Semana Europea de las Regiones y Ciudades (#EURegionsWeek) es el mayor evento anual dedicado a la política regional. Usualmente reúne en Bruselas a representantes políticos, académicos y otros expertos de regiones y ciudades de toda Europa.
Durante la Semana se debaten desafíos comunes para las regiones y ciudades europeas, y se fomenta el intercambio de experiencias y buenas prácticas relacionadas con la política de cohesión de la UE y los instrumentos financieros vinculados a la misma, al tiempo que se promueve y facilita la cooperación y creación de redes entre regiones y ciudades.
El proyecto TRIS
La acción Interreg TRIS, liderada en la Comunitat Valenciana por IVACE y AIDIMME, cuenta con la participación de cinco regiones europeas que han definido y puesto en marcha planes de Simbiosis Industrial a lo largo del periodo 2016-2021.
La simbiosis industrial promueve, entre industrias del mismo o diferentes sectores, el establecimiento de sinergias que pueden abarcar desde el uso de un residuo de una industria como materia prima de otra, hasta la utilización o implantación conjunta de un recurso, servicio o infraestructura.
En el fondo, pues, la Simbiosis Industrial articula un modelo cooperativo que busca optimizar los flujos de recursos para obtener un mayor beneficio colectivo. De este modo, la SI es el camino para aplicar muchos de los conceptos de economía circular en el tejido productivo, y pasa a ser un factor clave en las políticas de cohesión y en los programas europeos de innovación.
La Simbiosis Industrial, un camino al futuro
Las intervenciones de AIDIMME en los dos eventos estuvieron centradas alrededor de este tema.
El primer bloque, “Raising Awareness to influence policy for industrial simbiosis” se comentó la visibilización e inclusión de la Simbiosis Industrial en la agenda política de las regiones participantes. Manuel Sánchez, del área de I+D de AIDIMME, disertó sobre el importante papel de las asociaciones industriales en la definición y la implantación del Plan de Acción en la Comunitat Valenciana.
En el segundo bloque “Tailoring ERDF to support industrial symbiosis”, representantes de las administraciones de cuatro regiones hablaron del uso que han hecho de los fondos estructurales para promover unos instrumentos adecuados de aplicación de la Simbiosis Industrial.
El responsable de relaciones externas de IVACE, Jordi Sebastiá, expuso las materializaciones del plan de acción del proyecto TRIS, incluyendo la adaptación de programas de apoyo a la I+D e Innovación de IVACE, el proyecto INSYLAY, desarrollado por AIDIMME, y otras acciones como el proyecto SYMBINET, también participado por el instituto –junto con ITC, ITI y AINIA-, y el futuro observatorio de la Simbiosis Industrial, promovido asimismo por IVACE.
Finalmente, las visiones a largo plazo de las diferentes regiones para la implantación definitiva de estrategias regionales de economía circular y Simbiosis Industrial fueron las ideas sobre las que versó el tercer bloque de la sesión “The TRIS legacy”.
En la jornada del 21 de octubre, tras una primera intervención de la Consellera Carolina Pascual, La Directora General de Innovación, Sonia Tirado, presentó a 5 ponentes representantes de: ITE, Zubilabs, IVIA, Valencia Port Foundation y AIDIMME para la exposición proyectos desarrollados en el marco de la RIS-3.
Alicia Pérez, Jefa de Sección de Gestión de Procesos y Sostenibilidad de AIDIMME, centró su intervención en la Simbiosis Industrial, concretamente sobre los proyectos TRIS, INSYLAY y SYMBINET, poniendo de manifiesto la importancia de dotar a las empresas de herramientas que les permitan mantener los recursos subutilizados durante más tiempo en su fase de uso.

La jornada del proyecto TRIS, del 15 de octubre se desarrolló en tres bloques.
Entre los resultados de dicho plan de acción se encuentran la adaptación de determinadas convocatorias de IVACE a las características de la Simbiosis Industrial, un conjunto de actividades incluidas en los planes de acción de asociaciones industriales involucradas en el proyecto, y herramientas concretas como INSYLAY (https://simbiosisindustrial.aidimme.es/), que será presentado en las próximas semanas.
El proyecto TRIS ha involucrado a más de 50 agentes de diferentes administraciones y entidades regionales en la definición de su Plan de acción, coordinado por IVACE.

Industrial symbiosis in action
Industrial Symbiosis has been the focus of two AIDIMME presentations at the European Week of Regions.
On October 15, the TRIS (Transition Regions Towards Industrial Symbiosis) project held its final event. On October 21, the Directorate-General for Innovation, University, Science and Digital Society presented the S3 as a key for European Green Deal, including actions carried out by AIDIMME as an example.
The European Week of Regions and Cities
The European Week of Regions and Cities (#EURegionsWeek) is the largest annual event focused on regional policy. Generally, the event brough together in Brussels political and academic representatives, and other experts from regions and cities all around Europe.
Throughout the week, common challenges for European regions and cities are discussed; and the exchange of experiences and good practices related to the EU cohesion policy and related financial instruments is encouraged, while cooperation and networking between regions and cities are promoted and facilitated.
The TRIS Project
The action Interreg TRIS, led by IVACE and AIDIMME in the Community of Valencia, involves the participation of five European regions which have defined and implemented plans of Industrial Symbiosis over the years 2016-2021.
Industrial Symbiosis promotes, between industries in the same or different sectors, the establishment of synergies that can range from the use of waste from one industry as a raw material for another to the joint use or implementation of a resource, service or infrastructure.
Ultimately, Industrial Symbiosis articulates a cooperative model that seeks to optimise resource flows for greater collective benefit. In this way, IS is the way to apply many of the circular economy concepts in the productive network, becoming a key factor in cohesion policies and European innovation programmes.
Industrial Symbiosis, a way to the future
AIDIMME interventions in both events were focused on this subject.
The conference of the TRIS project, on Oct 15, consisted of three sections.
During the first section, “Raising Awareness to Influence Policy for Industrial Symbiosis”, the visibility and inclusion of Industrial Symbiosis in the politics of the participating regions were discussed. Manuel Sánchez, a member of the R & D department of AIDIMME, spoke about the important role of the industrial associations in defining and implementing the Action Plan in the Community of Valencia.
During the second section, “Tailoring ERDF to Support Industrial Symbiosis”, representatives of the administrations of four regions talked about the use of the structural funds to promote appropriate instruments for the implementation of Industrial Symbiosis.
The head of external relations at IVACE, Jordi Sebastiá, presented the materialisation of the action plan of the TRIS project, including the adaptation of support programmes to R&D and Innovation of IVACE; the INSYLAY project, developed by AIDIMME, and other actions, such as the SYMBINET project, in which also collaborated the Institute —together with ITC, ITI and AINIA— and the future observatory of the Industrial Symbiosis, also promoted by IVACE.
Finally, the third sector of the “The TRIS legacy” session addressed the long-term views of the different regions for the final implementation of regional strategies related to Circular Economy and Industrial Symbiosis.
On October 21, after the intervention of the Consellera Carolina Pascual, the Chief Executive of Innovation, Sonia Tirado, introduced five lecturers who represented ITE, Zubilabs, IVIA, Valencia Port Foundation and AIDIMME. They expounded on the projects conducted in the framework of the RIS-3.
Alicia Pérez, Head of Process and Sustainability Management Section of AIDIMME, based her intervention on Industrial Symbiosis, specifically on TRIS, INSYLAY and SYMBINET projects. She highlighted the importance of providing companies with tools that allow them to keep underutilized resources longer in their use phase.
Industrial Symbiosis Action Plan in the Community of Valencia
In the TRIS project, more than 50 agents from different administrations and regional entities were involved in the design of the Action Plan, coordinated by IVACE.
The results of this action plan include the adaptation of certain IVACE calls to the Industrial Symbiosis characteristics, a number of activities included in the actions plans of industry associations that are involved in the project, and specific tools such as INSYLAY (https://simbiosisindustrial.aidimme.es/), which will be presented in the coming weeks.
